Material Quality
A36 = The most common used hot-rolled carbon constructional steel is A36. It is easy to weld and has a minimum yield strength of 36k psi. Used in multiple applications like bridges, buildings, marine applications, and other structures where welding is used.
A572 Grade 50 = The most economical of the high-strength low alloy (HSLA) group. A572 Grade 50 uses combinations of columbium, vanadium, and/or nitrogen to provide strength. Formability is good. Welding in the low and medium carbon grades is excellent. Used in transmission towers, auto parts, and truck trailers.
M33 = Commonly known as Max 33 for its maximum carbon consistency of .33. Used in applications where physical and mechanical properties are not required.
AR235 = AR is an Abrasive Resistant Medium steel. Plate can be used as an abrasion resistance material which is superior to most structural-quality carbon steels. AR Medium plates are not intended for structural applications, formability, welding, or as structural or main load-bearing members.
AR400 = AR400 Combines hardness and toughness with the opportunity for flame cutting, forming and welding. AR400 steel plates are suitable for applications that requires a good level of abrasion resistance (i.e. bucket components, construction equipment and wear plates used in plows and farming equipment. This product will last up to four times longer than ordinary high strength structural plate.
AR500 = AR500 is a premium abrasion resistant steel plate, heat treated to increase hardening, improved forming and welding capabilities. AR500 is exceptional against wear. Used in the manufacture of mining, truck-trailer and concrete industries. AR500 steel possesses excellent resistance to slide wear, rub wear and heavy wear. It can also withstand high impact stresses, even at extremely low temperatures.
A514 (T-1) = A514 (T-1) used as a welding, formable, very high strength steel is needed. It saves weight to meet very high strength needs. It is normally used as a structural steel in building construction, cranes, or other large machines supporting high loads. A514 is a specific high strength steel, which is quenched and tempered alloy steel, with a yield strength of 100k psi.
A588 = Is a high strength low-alloy structural steel, with improved corrosion resistance for structural steel shapes such as angles, channel and beams, as well as steel plate and bars. A588 is intended primarily for use in welded bridges and other structures where savings in weight for added durability is important along with the longer life cycle due to its corrosion resistance in comparison to A36 and A572.
A242 = A242 is a high-strength low-alloy steel plate used in the construction of bridges and buildings. Its ability, to be resistant to corrosion leads to a much longer life in applications where exposure to “the weather” is a factor. A242 is suitable for many applications in the unpainted condition, and may develop a natural rust patina which protects the steel from exposure. A242 has a 50k psi minimum yield strength and a 70k psi minimum tensile strength. This specification is normally applicable to steel plates through one-half inch in thickness.
